floor description:

The BARiT MUSEUMS-TERRAZZO is a epoxy resin based terrazzo coating. The fine and monochrom structure is created through the use of high quality granulate. The architecture of open buildings with a lot of light, transparency and space screams for a seamless floor to not destroy the the flowing design.

Zaha Hadid Architect choose a seamless floor to install into the LC building of the WU Vienna. High mechanical loads, curves, sloping walls, light flooding and 500 floor installations with electrants, door blowers placed the highest demands on the execution of the terrazzo work.

project description:

The centre of the WU Vienna campus is the Library & Learning Center by the Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid. The cantilevered roof with the window front facing the Prater, the "monitor", characterises the building. The appearance is characterised by a dark and a light structure, separated by a glass joint.

Zaha Hadid chose a seamless BARiT museum terrazzo to ensure that all areas are modelled as if from a single mould. With over 1,000,000 visitors per year and a collection of around 650,000 books, the WU library is the largest economics library in Austria and one of the largest in the German-speaking world.

The museum terrazzo was installed in pearl white and a dark grey as a contrasting surface. For the installation of the tactile guidance system, coloured contrasts as well as special profiling in graphite were glued onto the jointless MUSEUMS-TERRAZZO.

The jointless MUSEUMS-TERRAZZO underlines the modern elegance of the assembly hall and library building (LLC) of the new campus of the Vienna University of Economics and Business.
